S T E P - C O R EAVID IV

May 2026 · 2nd Semester

AVID Course enrollment is based on an application procedure. Each year of AVID is a preparation for the following year. In AVID I and II, students learn strategies for success in college and careers. These courses emphasize critical reading, analytical/technical writing, collaborative discussion strategies, collaborative study groups, organizational skills, college-readiness test taking strategies, time management, and personal organization. AVID III is the first part in a junior/senior seminar that focuses on writing and critical thinking expected of first- and second-year college students. There are college-bound activities, opportunities to prepare for the SAT exam and tasks to support students as they apply to two-year and four-year colleges and universities and confirm their postsecondary plans. AVID IV is the second part in junior/senior seminar. Students will complete a final research project from college and career research conducted in their junior and senior years in AVID. All AVID seniors are required to develop and present a portfolio representing their years of work in the AVID program.
