Introduction to American symbols, customs, and traditions andthe history and purpose of Army JROTC. Introduction to theessential skills needed to maximize learning potential and futuresuccess. Assessment of current skill set and work to developmaximum potential. Application of learning theory andtechniques to improve study, communication, and planning skills.Exploration of social responsibility, conflict resolution, andservice-learning opportunities. Introduction to leadership: itsdefinition, the importance of knowing and applying basicleadership skills (principles, styles, values, the BE, KNOW, andDO attributes). Introduction to reading techniques, study habits,and test-taking strategies.
