American Sign Language I is an introductory course to the languageand culture of the Deaf community. Students will develop expressiveand receptive language skills to be able to communicate abouthighly familiar topics related to everyday student life. Students willdemonstrate skills in the interpretive, interpersonal, andpresentational modes of communication as defined by the TEKs. Theculture and contributions of the Deaf community are discussedthroughout the course. The expected outcome of this course is todevelop Novice Mid to Novice High proficiency. The course isconducted in ASL (without voice) a significant part of the time.
