Potomac High – Structural Systems S/T

Students will use equipment and materials in constructing a wood-frame structure. Experiences and instruction will pertain to light construction structural design; advanced wood-frame construction; brick masonry; surveying and site plotting; electrical wiring; plumbing systems and piping; insulating; building enclosing; interior finishing; testing of materials and structural components; design and installation of heating, cooling, and ventilating systems; current trends in structural design and engineering such as Code: specification in earthquake and storm surge prone areas; and design of trusses used in bridges, towers and steel structures. Through SY 2023-24, students entering high school in Fall 2021 are not eligible for Advanced Technology Education as a completer option (see AP 6150 Educational Requirements and Options).
