This course is an introduction to the health information departments, health care systems, and professional associations of the health information and informatics. Various aspects of information storage and retrieval systems, regulatory standards, the electronic health record, legal aspects, privacy requirements, and documentation requirements will also be examined. Students will also learn important skills that include presenting data as information, writing policies, and preparing professional reports.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of HIM petition process (PAS 1000, INT 1010, BIO 2050, BIO 2060, PSY 1010, HIM 1530)
