Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an elective class that provides support for students in the AVID program through curricular and mentoring activities. This course is designed to enable students to develop advanced skills and strategies in Cornell note -taking, oral and written communication, time management, study skills for advanced courses, organization, problem solving, and inquiry. This course also guides students to pursue a college education and actively assis ts in the final applicatio n process. The course emphasizes rhetorical reading, analytical writing, collaborative discussion strategies, tutorial inquiry study groups, preparation for college entrance and placement exams, college study skills and tes t taking strategies, note taking and research.
