Pershing High School – Vocal Jazz

This course is offered to students on a recommendation and audition basis. Students will explore music of the masters as well as contemporary composers and arrangers. They'll explore the lives of these composers, and their historical periods. Students will be able to: • Sight-sing with 100% degree of proficiency on the MSVMA Intermediate/advanced level. • Show improved knowledge of the jazz, blues, R&B and pop styles. • Perform in music department concerts, masterclasses, recitals, and other engagements arranged by instructor. • Demonstrate an understanding of good singing posture and vocal technique. • Show strong improvement of aural skills. • Demonstrate how interests, knowledge, and skills relate to intent when creating, performing, and responding to music.
