This course is the first half of a two-year Algebra 1 program. Fundamental concepts of Algebra will be presented at a more gradual pace than in a traditional Algebra 1 course. The fundamental purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. The primary focus of Algebra 1A will be deepening understanding of the relationships between quantities and of reasoning with equations, as well as linear and exponential relationships. Successful completion of both Algebra 1A and Algebra 1 will satisfy the Algebra 1 graduation requirement. Students will take the Algebra 1 EOC at the conclusion of Algebra 1. The EOC will account for 30% of their grade.

Prerequisite: Placement is based on academic history and test scores.
