Park View High – MATA Nurse Aide I SEM

The MATA Nurse Aide pathway is regulated under the Virginia Board of Nursing. Students study growth and development across the lifespan, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. Students are introduced to concepts of infection prevention and disease processes, as well as careers in nursing, health professions, and STEMH professions. Entry level skills include communication; measuring and recording of vital signs; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and general patient care. The course emphasizes care for the acute medical-surgical patient, the chronically ill, and the elderly. A forty-hour clinical rotation at a long-term care facility is a required component of the course. Students are prepared to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide. This course is part of the Loudoun Governor's STEM Academy.
