This is Poly’s introductory Engineering course that gives all students an experience of what it is that engineers really do. Group and individual activities engage students in creating ideas, developing innovations, and engineering practical solutions to given problems, as well as introduce students to the various fields of engineering. Technology content, resources, and laboratory/classroom activities apply science, mathematics, and other school subjects in authentic situations. This course leads students into a deeper exploration of the various fields of Engineering and many of the theories (particularly math and science theories) and practices associated with each. Students will further develop their skill in engineering drawing (utilizing such tools as AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, and AutoDesk Inventor) and problem solving. Particular emphasis will be put on Trigonometry and an introduction to Mechanics, power plants and energy generation processes, and the process of technology assessment.
