Orange Grove High – Music Through the Ages

This course focuses on listening, responding to, and drawing comparisons between music of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Popular styles, as well as non-European musical traditions. Students will learn how to listen beyond style and draw connections to the common human impulses that generate music (e.g., dance, work, theater, rites of life, etc.). The course will include elements of theory, ear training, music appreciation, and critical listening. Behavioral objectives include development of appreciation of historical and cultural heritage, aesthetic perception, creative expression, and aesthetic valuing.
