Orange Grove High – Child Care Occupations

This course prepares students for employment as pre-school teacher aides, child care aides or recreation leaders. Students will learn how to work with preschool and elementary school-age children and utilize principles of child growth and development, positive discipline, and management techniques; also included: child care laws and regulations, nutrition, safety and ageappropriate lesson planning. Prior to placement at a worksite for training the student must have TB clearance, complete CPR training, and be fingerprinted if over 18 years of age. Work site training is a requirement of this course; students will plan and present learning activities for children at local child care facilities or public schools. This certificate also meets the requirements for entry employment as a preschool teacher in private programs; after becoming employed, additional course work must be completed. This course also qualifies for credit with some local community colleges.
