Orange Grove High – Art/Design 1a-1b IB
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
The expression of human ideas, beliefs, behaviors and the cultural/social contexts from which they originate are found in all aspects of the visual and performing arts. Study of the arts offers students the opportunity to explore and bring meaning to the world in which they live. Offered as a "sixth subject" in the IB curriculum, this course is designed to assist college-bound students in developing critical thinking and aesthetic valuing skills, as well as provide exposure, independent exploration and research related to the media, techniques, historical and social contexts of the visual arts. Each student will produce a completed research workbook demonstrating knowledge gained through their independent exploration of the arts and meeting the standards of the IB assessment criteria. This course will allow students to complete the standard level B International Baccalaureate examination in Art/Design. This course would also fulfill a one year fine arts requirement for graduation.
Prerequisites: Students should have completed an introductory level art course and exhibit high-level reading and writing skills
