Odyssey Charter Schools 9-12 High School – Sociology

Sociology seeks to explain the nature of social order and disorder. The sociologist studies group interaction patterns, and attempts to explain them. Sociology can be useful in helping students understand today's society, and for developing a 'sociological' perspective that can provide new insights. This course is organized around a collection of texts, group process activities and selected media. Central concepts studied include: culture, socialization, roles, status, class, and social change, problems of mass society, adolescence, marriage, family and social science research. Course will be offered every other year, based on student interest.
Prerequisites: 2 credits of Social Studies
