This class will focus on the many different methods and philosophies of actor training, including (but not limited to) Stanislavski, Chekov, Laban, Viewpoints, and Practical Aesthetics. Through the use of published work and scene studies, students will ascertain a practical understanding of terms such as action, objective, tactic, obstacle, conflict, intention, motivation, and “beat.” Students will also work on techniques specific to voice and movement to encourage a mind-body connection to building a character. Particular emphasis will be given to ensemble-building, imaginative play, enlarging creativity, memorization techniques, and building self-confidence.
