This one-year course is designed to introduce high schoolstudents to the field of education. It emphasizes the learner's self-awareness as an individual, as part of a peer group, and as amember of the community. The course provides an examinationof the teacher as a practitioner and a professional. It focuses onthe process of teaching, on methodology, and on curriculum. Thiscourse surveys the history of American education, studiesNevada schools, and finally provides opportunities for researchingand debating current educational issues. It explores the reformmovement underway in education. Actual observations andtutoring/teaching experiences are intricately woven into thecurriculum. This course will fulfill one elective credit required forgraduation.
Prerequisites: 12thgrade standingDual credit class withUNLV EDU 203(Introduction toSpecial Education)$50 fee to UNLV(Taking the class fordual credit is notrequired)
