This one-year course is designed to involve woodwind and brass studentsin a wide variety of repertoire from the symphony orchestra literature.They wll rehearse as a separate unit concentrating on every aspect ofmusic aesthetics from the standpoint of a performer. Students willcombine with the orchestra string section for performances throughout theschool year. Students should already possess a fairly high degree ofadvanced playing technique. The class will continue to emphasize thedevelopment of skills. Music selection will include literature from allperiods and styles. The importance of sustained group and individualeffort is stressed. A progression of technical proficiency is expected.Emphasis will be placed on having a variety of performing experiences.This course will fulfill either the one arts/humanities credit or one of theelective credits required for high school graduation.
