Norco High – Music Theory 1a-1b

This course is designed for the serious music student. Students in this course will listen to, analyze and describe music terminology. They will learn to read and notate music at an advanced level. Students will compose, arrange and improvise melodies, variations, and accompaniments using digital/electronic technology when appropriate. They will learn to apply these skills to a performance medium such as voice or keyboard. Students will analyze how history effects and influences musical composition and performance styles. Using the elements of music as a guide, students will make critical judgments about musical performances both recorded and live. Students will apply what they have learned in music theory to learning in other art forms, subject areas, and careers.
Prerequisites: "B" or better in a previous music course or instructor approval
