This Vocal & Audio Production course offers students an opportunity to focus on the aesthetic qualities of vocal and audio production so as to analyze the inherent form of communication in today's society. Small group instruction and coaching will be provided so allow students to focus on the aesthetic qualities of vocal and sound production. Students will integrate creative expression and the development of creative ideas individually and/or in groups. Their creative process will include writing, rewriting, collaboration and additional rewriting. They will ensure their proposed project connect to their proposed audience, extend beyond their intended audience and integrate their level of music study into a various of musical styles. Knowledge and utilization of microphones, digital, analog and computer (digital)- based audio editing and recording equipment will be a secondary focus within this course. Instruction in basic vocal technique, microphone technique, audition technique and recording technique will be taught and refined during this course. Emphasis will be placed on the purpose of communicating the purpose of the song to an intended audience. Students may receive individual vocal instruction in addition to professional coaching from industry professionals. Students will develop a Digital Audio Portfolio that may be utilized as they prepare for potential careers in music engineering and production.
