The major emphasis of this course is to provide an intensive examination of the process, content and analysis of music through demonstration and performance. Emphasis is placed on performing quality concert band literature as well as development of the fundamentals of balance, blend, intonation and rhythm. \\* To strengthen general performance skills. \\* To prepare for and participate in the audition process including private instrumental lessons, independent study and research. \\* To consider the purchase of an instrument to help meet the demands of the mature musician. This course will address the five component strands of the state VAPA standards. It will require proficiency beyond the introductory level. Work outside the class will be required (ex. personal practice, sectionals, private lessons, rehearsals etc.). Students must agree before registration to a commitment of additional hours outside of class time. Students will perform at various events throughout the year. This course may be repeated for duplicate credit.
