Norco High – Peer Counseling 1a-1b

This course is divided into two major training areas which include the learning of peer counseling skills and the discussion of teen issues. The first part covers communication, decision-making, and counseling skills. Clarification of issues and applied skills are the focus of the second part of the course. The students are led into an examination of their values in the areas of adolescent stress, chemical dependency, death, depression, family, loss, peer pressure, school-related issues, sexuality and suicide. Special expectations for this course include a parent permission letter and a student code of conduct signed by the student and a parent.
Prerequisites: Instructor approval and parent permission letter
