Emerson said that the secret of education is respecting the student. I have the greatest respect for that part of the human spirit that is curious and wants to learn. I find that if students feel they are listened to and heard, this allows them to feel encouraged. I am a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis where I recieved my degree in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and Drama. While at WashU, I completed independent and original research on the reliability and accuracy of earwitness testimony--ultimately culminating in an honors thesis and graduating summa cum laude. I have over 7 years and thousands of hours of teaching experience, educating all ages and levels of students (from kindergarten to high school juniors and seniors). Though I have a wide range of academic interests, I am particularly passionate about helping students achieve their goals in standardized testing and application essay editing. As a National Speech and Debate All American, I also enjoy helping students become more confident public speakers, speech writing, and debate preparation. I am a firm believer that learning should be both educational and fun, finding that it also leads to the best outcomes. I individually customize each of my tutoring sessions to fit the needs and learning styles of each student, ensuring that they are front and center. I am passionate about helping students because I love to learn and share in ideas. "Teaching" others and gaining their perspective is like "relearning" something and enjoying that "ah ha" moment all over again. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities, sponsored foreign exchange students, and collaborated with other artists and volunteers through community arts organizations. As my high school Valedictorian, I attended Xavier University on a full academic scholarship where I attained a BFA with a concentration in Drawing and Painting. I also studied classical dance from a German ballerina through a long teaching apprenticeship.
