Question 1

What will I learn in Algebra and Elementary Functions?

Accepted Answer

The goal of this course is to give the students a solid foundation in algebra and prepare them for success in AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC and later in college. The course consists of "traditional" algebra topics (algebraic equations and inequalities, rational and irrational expressions, elements of analytic geometry) and the topics, which are prerequisites for calculus. The emphasis is on functions and their properties (domain, range, increasing and decreasing, asymptotes). The course includes basic elementary functions (power functions, linear and quadratic functions, fractional - linear functions, exponents and logarithms, and some rational functions). Several topics of discrete mathematics are included in this course as well: divisibility of integers, arithmetic and geometric progressions, sequences and their limits, infinite geometric series, Newton's binomial, and mathematical induction.
