Mohawk Trails Elementary School – STUDENT MEDIA : VISUAL JOURNALISM II

Building on the foundation established in Visual Journalism 1, this course offers students the opportunity to deepen their practice and understanding of the visual elements of journalism and design, including photography, design, typography, and color theory. Students will continue to refine their photojournalism and design skills, culminating in the creation of a personal web-based portfolio showcasing their work and analyses of professional projects. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator will be emphasized throughout the course. Students will explore the visual modes of news coverage across various platforms, from digital media through all forms of digital communication, while also examining the laws and ethics that inform media coverage decisions. Students will have an opportunity to follow their own path in choosing projects to exhibit their skills. While students are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras, school-provided cameras will be available for use with a parent-signed equipment liability waiver. * * * Locally Created Pathway (LCP) : Civic Arts -- Media Across Platforms - The following courses represent four pathways: CHTV, HiLite, Pinnacle, and WHJE. - All pathways begin with the Principles of Broadcasting: Converged Media course. - All students who take our courses are not required to be on a pathway. - Some of the courses carry full weight credit. These will be marked below in the “credit” category.
