Note: Students who do not meet the prerequisite should contact the department chair to arrange a placement test. Waivers are not acceptable if the student has not taken AP Precalculus BC. AP Calculus BC is a college-level course designed for highly motivated math students, including those who plan to major in a STEM field. The course covers all the material typically found in a standard first-year college Calculus course (Calc I and Calc II). The topics studied include differential Calculus and applications, integral Calculus and applications, developing mathematical series through Calculus, and the Calculus of parametric functions and vectors. The student should be competent in a range of analytical and technical skills and fluent with all basic functions covered in prerequisite courses. The curriculum is aligned with College Board standards and includes additional basic content typically covered in a traditional college course. Students will be prepared for the AP Calculus BC exam and are encouraged to take it in the spring. Part of the exam expense may be covered by the state for students currently enrolled in the course. By taking the AP exam, students may earn up to two college credits. As part of the Advance College Project through Indiana University, students who enroll in AP Calculus BC may apply to earn four (4) hours of college credit each semester. Students would be enrolled in course numbers M211 and M212.  Each student who chooses to participate in the ACP program should inform their counselor at the time of scheduling. Once a student's application is accepted by the ACP Office of IU, withdrawal from the course is available in October. \*The state will not supplement both AP and ACP. If a student chooses to do both, they will be charged the full amount for the AP exam. Students taking this course will be required to use calculators with a Computer Algebra System (CAS) for classwork and assessments. The two recommended are the TI-Nspire CX CAS or TI-Nspire CX II CAS graphing calculator. Non-CAS calculators, such as the Numworks or TI-84 Plus CE, and technology like Desmos may be used for daily work, but they are limited since they do not have the full functionality of the CAS version.
