From my experience teaching math to a range of students, from middle school through college, I know that it does not come easily to everyone. However, I firmly believe that everyone has the capability for mathematical reasoning. Everyone has their own strengths and challenges, and my job as a tutor begins with identifying these. I like to have students work through problems while I guide them and make suggestions, so that I can get a sense of what they understand and what they don't. Then we can build on their knowledge and break down the challenging parts of the problem into smaller, more manageable chunks. I hold a bachelor's degree from UChicago and a doctorate from MIT, both in mathematics. I am available to tutor Latin, physics, and all levels of math. Outside of academics, I am an avid tournament chess player, and I enjoy running and cycling.

While I may not have professional experience in tutoring or teaching, that is definitely not the case in the literal sense. All my life I've been called upon by my teachers and professors to help the students in class that struggled, and I loved to do so. I realized that while things came easily to me, it was not always the case for my fellow classmates, so I happily helped them pick up the slack. As long as someone wanted to learn, I was always available to help them out. My love of learning I tried to engender in them, with mixed results. First, off I have a degree in Mathematics, graduated with a 4.0 (in a 4.0 GPA system), and was on the Dean's List. I scored well enough on my AP Calculus exam in High School that I was able to skip the initial courses in College. And when I made it to college, I excelled at those courses too, acing all work and tests. (Note the similarities in my subjects of ability, I'm pretty evenly skilled in both fields) First, off I have a degree in Physics, graduated with a 4.0 (in a 4.0 GPA system), and was on the Dean's List. On top of that, I was at the top of my class in all my mathematics courses and was known to help other students when they had difficulties. I was accepted into classes that were usually not available to my grade level due to my aptitude and interest in the subject. (Note the similarities in my subjects of ability, I'm pretty evenly skilled in both fields) If you want to learn, just like I did, or if you just want help with something that might not quite "click" for you, well I'm happy to lend my services and help you excel just like I did, when someone helped me.

I graduated from the University of Cincinnati majoring in Physics, Astrophysics, and Mathematics. I am most passionate about physics, although mathematics is a close second. The beauty that unfolds in the equations is truly remarkable to me. I have been tutoring for over six years and have been a professional mathematician for four years. I also have experience working in experimental physics research. I find working with struggling students to be most rewarding, because I myself once felt completely incapable of learning math and physics. It was the patience and encouragement of my professors and classmates that made me into the confident scientist I am today. In my experience, understanding a student's unique perspective and preferences is the most effective way to guide them to form thorough understandings in their own way. My students and I often enjoy working through problems together step by step with ample room for questions, and they leave each session feeling encouraged in their capabilities. I understand what it is like to struggle to grasp concepts, and so I have endless patience for helping students through similar challenges. It is always worth the hard work when a student realizes--they could do it all along!
