Army JROTC 1 is the first in a sequence that combines the development of critical thinking, planning, communication, and organizational skills with a study of the fundamental aspects of American citizenship, map reading, first aid, physical fitness, and an overview of American history. Students learn of the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of goal-setting. Additionally, they have the opportunity to study Army customs, consumer education and budgeting, ceremonial drill, and current events. Students may be granted pupil placement if course enrollment is desired. Army JROTC program provides a four-year, sequential program of instruction that emphasizes academic preparation, citizenship, leadership, and character development for all students in grades 9 - 12. The sequence of courses is progressive and builds upon the previous year's curriculum.
