This course is open to all students who have experience on jazz or blues related instruments, and membership is limited to the instrumentation of standard jazz big-band.  This course emphasizes the development of rhythmic and counting skills as well as understanding of music/jazz theory.  Students will learn how to improvise, a skill unique to jazz performance.  Members of Jazz Band will be expected to practice regularly at home, as the Jazz Band is considered one of the elite ensembles of the music program.
