This guide helps families understand available science paths and how each course connects to the next. Following the recommended sequence supports strong skill development, keeps students on track, and prepares them for future science success. On Grade Level Pathway Students in this pathway take science classes that match their grade level. They learn science at the pace suggested by the Standards of Learning. In this path, students typically take Science 6 in sixth grade, Science 7 in seventh grade, and Physical Science in eighth grade. After sixth grade, students can take and pass a required summer bridge course to move into the honors pathway if interested. This is the only opportunity to change pathways in middle school. Honors Pathway Students in this pathway accelerate the learning of middle school content, learning more science content of multiple grade levels in a single year. In this path, students typically take Honors Science Systems I in sixth grade, Honors Science Systems II in seventh grade, and Earth Science in eighth grade. After sixth grade, students can move from the honors pathway to the on grade level pathway. This is the only opportunity to change pathways in middle school.
