Linganore High – Ceramics

Students design and construct artworks from clay to create a process portfolio (a collection of finished artworks, selfevaluations, idea sketches, handouts, notes, and critiques). They study ceramic art history, the elements and principles of design, critiquing, and aesthetics. Activities using clay include hand building, throwing, decorative techniques, and special clay processes. An overview of related-health hazards is also included. In Ceramics 2, 3, and 4, students work on increasingly more individual and independent design and construction of clay projects, as well as learning and practicing more advanced techniques for clay construction, glazing, and decorating.
