Students have the opportunity to learn the skills necessary for employment in fashion sales and coordination, cosmetic merchandising, apparel and accessory sales, visual display. Customer relations, buying, the sales process, color and current fashion trends are included in the curriculum. The student's training program may be directed to meet his/her individual needs and interests depending upon community training sites. Training sites may include department stores, apparel and specialty shops. This course will emphasize principles of health promotion and disease prevention. The course content will include: personal health; consumer and community health; injury prevention and safety; individual growth and development; tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs; nutrition; communicable and chronic diseases; family living, and environmental health. This course will also include units on study skills, time management, note-taking, outlining, and test-taking skills necessary for a successful high school experience. This course is designed to help students develop their skills as a healthcare provider in the areas of athletic training, physical therapy, fitness instructor, medical and sports equipment salespersons, and other sports medicine occupations. The students will train at community locations to practice and develop the skills they have learned in the classroom. Subject matter will also include such items as personal attitude, appropriate work habits, and professional appearance. The training program may be directed to meet the student's individual needs and interests, depending upon the community-training site. Training sites will include high schools, junior colleges, and college athletic training programs, private health clubs, hospitals, and private physical therapy clinics.
Prerequisites: minimum GPA of 2.0 or better
