This course is designed to help the students develop language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the study of basic elements of the sound system of the language, basic structural patterns, and useful everyday vocabulary. Emphasis will be placed upon the listening and speaking activities and upon the reinforcement of grammatical principles in the past tense through written exercises. An introduction to German culture is included. This course is communication based and emphasizes collaborative and communicative activities within the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, culture, and learning skills.
