Lee V. Pollard High – Advanced Percussion

This course will focus on basic and advanced percussion techniques and practices. The students will learn necessary rudiments and music reading skills that can be used in all percussion playing. Students who complete this class should be able to participate at some level in the various band classes offered. The students will be exposed to percussion music and instruments from other cultures. They will learn the history of percussion music and its importance as a form of communication. The students will perform selected percussion music at concerts or recitals. The students will be instructed in listening skills and self-evaluation techniques that will enhance their performances. The students will listen to other percussionists and will be able to distinguish between proper and improper techniques. This course may be repeated for duplicate credit.
Prerequisites: "C" or better in Beginning Percussion or instructor approval
