This course is an elective class which combines supervised, paid employment in any occupational field with related classroom instruction in employability skills. Students will develop work habits, attitudes, self-confidence, and job skills which can be used to locate, secure, and retain employment in the community. Instruction in level 1A is divided into 3 parts involving the Employment Cycle: How to Get a Job, Keep a Job, and Leave a Job. Labor laws, employee rights, income taxes and other pertinent topics will be discussed as they relate to the employment cycle. Notes: Student must have a legally paid job, working at least 10 hours (10 credits a week, or 5 hours (5 credits), at a nonresidential/stationary business location, within approximately 30 miles of the CNUSD. Self-employment or independent contractor status is not allowed. Job must be legal, safe, moral and approved by the WEE coordinator. Students must obtain a valid work permit if under age 18. Course Requirements: a. Legal job (see prerequisite) working minimum of $60 %$ of semester b. Student submits an enrollment card/training agreement c. Student submits a work permit application if under age 18 d. Student attends once a week related instruction class regularly e. Student submits weekly time sheets signed by employer regularly f. Student submits paycheck stubs monthly g. Student satisfactorily completes assignments, etc. as required h. Student develops a portfolio (resume, references, applications, etc.) May be taken as 5 or 10 credits per semester.
