This course is designed to increase academic skills necessary to participate in everyday life with goals for maximum independence. To be functional, these dills must be related to some real activity that the student encounters in daily living. Functional academics skills are learned and applied in a variety of environments. Instruction occurs in both classroom and community settings. Goal areas include, but are not limited to, using and comprehending recipes, communicating and writing personal information, verbalizing sequences. Reading functional words, telling time to follow a schedule, using money to make purchases, increase expressive vocabulary, functional safety, loaning library books, improving writing skills, writing simple correspondence and keeping a journal. Notes: Grade Range $^ { 1 8 + }$ /Transition. Pass/No Pass This course is designed to assist students in grades 9th through 12th with connecting to high school through building relationships with other students and with faculty and to focus on building skills that will help make them successful in high school and beyond. The class will concentrate on attachment (to other students, staff, and school) achievement (items related to academic success) and awareness (of self and others, and life issues.)

Prerequisites: Enrolled in the SH-SDC/ Life Enrolled in the SH-SDC/ Life with a current I.E.P.
