Lee V. Pollard High – Exploratory Work Experience 2a-2b

This course is an elective course which combines non-paid job observation and sampling with related classroom instruction in employability skills. Students will ascertain their interest and suitability for the occupations they are exploring. Instruction is the same as General Work Experience with the exception that additional time is given to career-awareness/exploration activities and the skills needed to acquire employment. Instruction in level 2A expands upon, the curriculum of level 1A (Employment Cycle: How to Get a Job, Keep a Job, and Leave a Job). Greater emphasis is placed on post-graduation resumes and interview skills, succeeding on the job, and communication skills. Instruction is modified for special needs learners. Notes: 1A is a prerequisite for 2A or Work Experience coordinator approval. A passing grade is required if enrolled in previous semester. Student observes a job at least 10 hours (10 credits), or 5 hours (5 credits) per week at a non-residential/ stationary business location, within approximately 30 miles of the CNUSD. The job to be observed must be approved by the WEE coordinator. Course Requirements: a. Student participates in non-paid job observations a minimum of $60 %$ of weeks in a semester b. Student submits an enrollment card/training agreement c. Student submits a work permit application if under age 18 d. Student attends once a week related instruction class regularly e. Student submits weekly time sheets signed by employer regularly f. Student satisfactorily completes assignments, etc., as required g. Student updates and revises previous year's portfolio May be taken as a 5 or 10 credit a semester.
