So you want to be a lawyer! Well, you don't have to be a lawyer, or a perspective law student in college to take this class. Have you considered your rights and why we have laws? Do you plan to rent an apartment, buy a car or get married some day? Do you like a class where you can discuss topics and voice your opinions? Do you like to work in groups, give presentations andhave guest speakers visit to enhance your knowledge of real life events? Then enroll in Business Law! This course uses computer technology and introduces the topics of business and personal law. As students become familiar with these underlying concepts of law they will gain a better understanding of the importance of the law in general. They will become knowledgeable about specific laws that are likely to be relevant to them in every day life. This foundation will include ethics, problems in society, criminal law, civil law, and procedural law. Students will learn about liability issues, our court system and trial procedures. With this background, students are then ready to consider entering into contracts, which provides basic rules that we can all use to define our private rights and duties. During the second semester students will continue to enhance their skills with law related subjects as they gain knowledge with actual case studies. Students will obtain supplementary skills in contracts, warranties, consumer protection, and writing checks! Students will also learn about different types of businesses, such as proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. Knowing the law is powerful and rewarding!
