Leander High School – Advanced Language for Career Applications

Recommended Prerequisite(s): Spanish IV: Language and Culture AP Students explore different approaches to translation and develop an understanding of the links between theory and practice. With a focus on recent research, students develop an awareness of the wider cultural, ethical and professional contexts of translation. Students will acquire a solid grounding in a range of ideas within translation studies (e.g. linguistic and functionalist approaches, translation as norm-governed behavior, cultural and sociological turns, gender and postcolonial theories, translation technologies) and apply this to a range of translation activities. During the course students will meet professional translators to gain insight, advice and receive feedback on student products. The course is in Spanish. Student translations will be primarily English/Spanish, Spanish/English. Seminar in Languages other than English, Advanced Spanish
