Students will study three types of writing: narrative, informational, and argumentative. By writing often and using mentor texts to guide the process, students will learn to effectively communicate ideas, tell a story, and express an opinion. This course follows a standard-based curriculum that focuses on the development of clear and coherent writing through the writing process. Conventions of writing will be woven throughout instruction. Short and sustained research through inquiry will be a natural extension of the writing tasks. Students will express information and enhance understanding of presentation through strategic use of digital media and a variety of visual representations.
