Lake Washington High School – Industrial Design/3D Printing
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
In this Industrial Design/3D Printing course, students will create various 3D objects, bringing designs to life on Ultimaker S7 3D printers. They will explore careers in product, jewelry, fashion, game, and industrial design, as well as engineering. Projects include designing custom key chains, modeling a fidget spinner to fit a bearing, creating functional, assistive objects, and designing models to test tensile strength. Students will learn rapid prototyping, fitment, clearance, tolerance, and the use of calipers while exploring the full design cycle. Final projects will be platform-ready for Kickstarter or Etsy. Using Fusion 360 and Adobe Illustrator, students will apply the Stanford Design School’s Design Thinking curriculum to build prototypes that address real-world challenges and aim to improve lives. These skills can be used in developing virtual designs for games and animated films.
