Lake Washington High School – Culinary Arts I

This course focuses on basic food preparation skills and the role of foods and nutrition in human health and wellness. Areas of study include demonstration of food preparation and cooking skills in correlation to individual nutrition guidelines. Culinary Arts I is an in-depth course for students wishing to explore careers in a variety of food service industry fields. Students enrolled in the class learn techniques in a variety of cooking methods. Students practice safety and sanitation procedures; cooking fundamentals; and catering. Students learn to accept leadership responsibility and be part of a team while demonstrating the skills and attitudes that contribute to a productive and safe working environment.
