Prerequisites: This special education course is designed with a modified curriculum that aligns with grade-level standards and provides writing and reading activities at student instructional levels. Students will also receive specially designed instruction and accommodations in their areas of need as outlined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP). It focuses on improving a student's vocabulary, critical thinking, and analysis skills, along with reading rate and comprehension level. Emphasizes works of fiction but includes works of nonfiction (including textbooks). The course has a time-management focus, offering strategies for note-taking or for understanding and evaluating the critical points of a text.
