This course provides students with the opportunity to attain a depth of understanding of fundamentals and a reasonable competence to deal with chemical problems that a typical freshman is learning on a college level course. To be successful, students need strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. The course also develops the students' abilities to think clearly and to express their ideas, orally and in writing, with clarity and logic. Extensive laboratory experience is provided for all Advanced Placement Chemistry students. Prerequisite: Biology, Honors Chemistry, and unweighted $85 %$ or higher in Advanced Algebra should be taking pre-calculus or higher while taking this course. This course is the equivalent to a first semester college course in algebra-based physics but utilizes a great deal of conceptual short answer questions as well. The course covers Newtonian mechanics including rotational dynamics and angular momentum); work, energy, and power; and mechanical waves and sound. It will also introduce electric circuits. We will add a small amount of content to give a little bit broader exposure to physics topics and make sure students who choose to take Physics again the following year are prepared with basic electricity principles. No exposure to Physics is required. Recommended prerequisites: Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Math.
