The magic of theatre begins with the tech crew! In this course students will enjoy exploring what goes on backstage. Through hands-on activities and projects students will gain experience in rigging, property design, construction, organization, basic flat construction, elements of lighting and light board operation, scenic painting techniques, stage management, and the overall care of the theatre. Students may also acquire practical hours through designing lights for concerts, acting as the light board operator, helping to build sets for productions, acting as stage manager for school productions, etc. Careers will be explored through interaction with professional theatre companies, guest artists, field trips, and fieldwork. The course is designed to prepare students for actual work in performance related fields.
