IB World Religions SL is the first part of a course that prepares students for the Standard Level (SL) IB World Religions exam in May. The course explores the nature and meaning of religion, its role in society, and a survey of major world religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Emphasis is placed on the interaction between religion, culture, and history, as well as the individual beliefs and practices of each religion. Students will also have the opportunity to research and present on other world religions based on their interests. The course aims to: - Promote an inquiring, analytical, and empathetic approach to the study of religion - Develop an informed understanding of the diversity of world religions - Foster a respectful awareness of the significance of religious beliefs and practices - Explore how religion impacts individuals' lives and global societies - Encourage a global appreciation of religious and spiritual issues, controversies, and movements - Promote responsible and informed international citizenship

Prerequisites: Students should be prepared to engage in research, discussions, and comparisons of world religions in a respectful and academic manner. Participation through both verbal and written discourse is essential. Students should also be ready to work at a fast-paced, IB level. No prior knowledge of world religions is necessary.
