The purpose of this course is to enable the student with disabilities to acquire skills when served in a hospital or homebound setting, in order to achieve the Annual Goals and Short-Term Objectives or Benchmarks specified in each student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Highly-qualified teachers provide instruction designed to assist students to continue progressing academically in the core curriculum while away from their regular school program. The curriculum follows the Sunshine State Standards for essential academic skills and core curriculum. After successfully completing this course, the student will achieve the relevant Annual Goals and Short-Term Objectives or Benchmarks specified in the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

Prerequisites: Students must be enrolled in public school (9th through 12th grade) and have a statement and medical referral from a licensed Florida physician documenting a medically diagnosed physical or psychiatric condition (acute, catastrophic, chronic, or repeated intermittent). Physician must certify the student is under treatment and confined to home or hospital. Student is expected to be absent for at least 15 consecutive school days (or equivalent on block schedule) or 15 non-consecutive days for chronic conditions. Student must be able to participate in and benefit from an instructional program without endangering the health and safety of the instructor.
