Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides real-world application of skills and concepts to take students to the next level of possible future careers. Students have a variety of options to explore and potentially earn industry certification credits.

The English Language Arts department provides the highest level of rigorous instruction in reading and writing. In keeping with the Florida Language Arts Standards, the curriculum focuses on four general areas of instruction: informative reading comprehension and analysis, literary reading comprehension and analysis, argumentative writing, and informational writing.

Horizon West Middle School offers one foreign language track for students in Spanish.

The math department offers a variety of rigorous and supportive class placements ranging from 6th grade math to Honors Geometry. Following the Florida BEST Benchmarks, these classes are intended to prepare students for future math classes, as well as the FAST or EOC cumulative exam at the end of the school year.

Horizon West Middle School Science Department provides students with a positive and enjoyable learning experience through inquiry/activity based programs. The content is in accordance with the Florida Department of Education's Grade Level Expectations as well as Orange Public Schools' benchmarks.

The Social Studies department offers grade-specific courses covering world history, civics, and U.S. history.

Physical Education classes require students to dress out in Horizon West shirt and shorts. Students must have a school-purchased lock ($5).

Fine Arts programs include Art, Band/Chorus/Orchestra, Dance, and Theatre.
