Heritage High School – Introduction to Welding

Training for employment with entry-level skills in welding trades will be emphasized. Oxy-fuel welding and cutting, plasma arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding will be covered. Hand and power tools, welding on various types of metals, reading blueprint welding symbols, metal characteristics, and equipment setup are other areas that students master. Safety, leadership, entrepreneurship, and career opportunities are included. Materials fee may be required for this course. # Prerequisite: Agricultural Equipment Design & Fabrication or Introduction to Welding The practicum course is a paid or unpaid capstone experience for students participating in a coherent sequence of career and technical education courses in the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources cluster. The practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experiences such as employment, independent study, internships, assistantships, mentorships, or laboratories. To be prepared for careers in agriculture, food, and natural resources, students must acquire technical knowledge in the discipline as well as apply academic skills in mathematics. Students should apply knowledge and skills related to mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and data analysis in the context of agriculture, food, and natural resources. To prepare for success, students are afforded opportunities to reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills related to mathematics in a variety of contexts. Materials fee may be required for this course.
