This course is a rigorous mathematics class for students who intend to major in non-technical fields of study upon entering college. Students will develop and apply skills necessary for college, careers, and life. Course content consists primarily of applications of high school mathematics concepts to prepare students to become well-educated and highly informed 21st century citizens. Students will develop and apply reasoning, planning, and communication to make decisions and solve problems in applied situations involving numerical reasoning through weighted averages, proportion, combinatorics, voting and selection process. Students will gain understanding of probability and statistical reasoning by determining validity and usefulness of statistical data as well as finance through analyzing models for expenditures, amortization tables, and various types of loans and investments. Other topics include modeling with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and discrete mathematics. This course serves as an alternative to Pre-Calculus. Students who have successfully passed Pre- Calculus are not eligible to take Advanced Quantitative Reasoning. This course is not weighted for GPA purposes. # Prerequisite: Geometry and Algebra II Pre-calculus is the preparation for calculus. The course approaches topics from a function point of view, where appropriate, and is designed to strengthen and enhance conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning used when modeling and solving mathematical and real-world problems. PreCalculus is a detailed study of: linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. This course also covers sequences, series, vectors, and introductory parametric functions. This course meets the minimum prerequisite requirement for AP Calculus AB. This course is not recommended as a prerequisite for AP Calculus BC.
