American Sign Language is a unique, visual language with its own grammar, structure, and rules. This course will introduce students to the important functions of ASL grammar, the basic rules of signing in ASL and the distinct aspects of deaf culture. Students learn to communicate about themselves and their immediate environment by using ASL vocabulary, idioms, fingerspelling, simple phrases and expressions, non-manual signals and gestures.
